Gemini Birthday Prompts: 12 Photo Concepts and a Candle Count Test (2026)
Gemini birthday prompts: 12 ready-made prompts, including a balloon arch, a number candle cake, a black and gold night and a photo with your partner. We tested them with 54 images: Gemini counted 7 candles correctly, drew too many candles in 7 of 8 images when we asked for 16, and got number candles and balloons right 16 out of 16 times.

- We asked Gemini to put 7 candles on a cake, and 7 of 8 images had exactly 7. When we asked for 16, only one image had 16. The other seven had between 17 and 21 candles, and none had too few.
- When we described the same 16 candles as "4 rows, 4 candles in each row", correct images went from 1 to 5. Nano Banana 2 Lite, which draws most requests on a free Gemini account, still drew 17 and 13 candles with this layout.
- Showing the age with number candles or foil number balloons is the safest route: "35" and "27" came out in the right order in 16 of 16 images across four models, and 8 of 8 in the concepts with people.
- We made 12 birthday images from portraits of two fictional people. Glasses, mole, bangs, beard, earring and eyebrow slit were all in place in 36 of 36 checks. In one image, Nano Banana 2 gave the woman dangling earrings we never asked for.
- The 12 prompts work as they are in Gemini and in ChatGPT. We did not test in ChatGPT. Our test used the original Turkish versions of the prompts, ran on October 20, 2026 through the Gemini API with 54 images, and cost about $3.60.
If you want the candles on the cake to match the age, don't make Gemini count candles. Have it write the age as numbers. Number candles and foil number balloons never missed in our test, while plain candles were right at 7 and too many in most images at 16.
The 12 Gemini birthday prompts below include a studio shot with a balloon arch from your own photo, a cake shot with number candles, a black and gold night concept, birthday images with your partner and with your mom, a kids' theme table with no photo, and a written concept plan for a real party. Under each prompt we note whether we tested it.
How to Make a Birthday Photo with Gemini in 5 Steps
Short answer: upload a photo where your face is clear and facing the camera, name the features that must stay, ask for the age as a number balloon or number candles, then zoom in on the result and read the numbers.
- Pick the photo. One front-facing portrait in daylight is enough; keep your glasses and hair in the frame.
- Open Gemini and upload the photo. You can attach up to 10 files in a single prompt; ChatGPT's free plan has a limit of 3 files a day.
- Paste the prompt and fill in the square brackets. List the features to keep one by one: glasses, mole, beard, earring.
- Give the age as numbers. Write it from the viewer's side, like "3 on the left, 0 on the right"; don't ask for more than 10 plain candles.
- Check the result. Zoom in and count the numbers, the candles and the small features on the face one by one; if something has shifted, ask it to fix only that in the same chat.
Making it count the age in plain candles. In 7 of the 8 images where we wrote "exactly 16 candles", there were too many, and one went up to 21. If the age will show on the cake, ask for number candles; if it won't, keep the candles under 10.
Gemini Birthday Prompts: 12 Ready-Made Prompts (They Work in ChatGPT Too)
Upload your photo, copy the prompt and replace the parts in square brackets with your own details. The "birthday text" or "birthday concept text" people share on social media is the same thing: a birthday prompt you paste into the AI.
1) Balloon arch and age balloons: the base template
Use the person in the photo I uploaded; keep their face, hair and distinctive features ([glasses, mole, beard, earring]) exactly as in the photo, and do not beautify or change their face.
Scene: a birthday photo shoot. The person stands in front of an arch of [blush pink and white] balloons, looks straight at the camera and smiles.
To the person's right as seen by the viewer, two large [gold] foil number balloons stand side by side on the floor: "[3]" on the left, "[0]" on the right; together they read "[30]". There are no other numbers, letters or text.
Outfit: [a plain cream-colored sweater].
Soft studio lighting, light gray backdrop, full-body framing, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 3:4.We tried this template with two fictional people in Nano Banana 2 Lite and Nano Banana 2; the age read correctly in all four images and the facial features stayed in place. The version we tested did not say where the balloons should go: in both of its images, Nano Banana 2 split the numbers on either side of the person, so the person stood between the "3" and the "0". That is why we added the line "to the person's right, side by side". We did not test this final version separately.
2) At the cake: a birthday shot with number candles
Use the person in the photo I uploaded; keep their face, hair and distinctive features ([glasses, mole, beard, earring]) exactly as in the photo, and do not beautify or change their face.
Scene: a birthday evening at home. The person sits at a table, looks straight at the camera and laughs; in front of them is a [round, cream-colored] cake.
In the middle of the cake stand two lit candles shaped like numbers: from the viewer's side, "[3]" on the left, "[5]" on the right; together they read "[35]". No other candles or text.
Blurred warm fairy lights in the background. Chest-up framing, 50 mm, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 3:4.In all four images the numbers came out in the right order, and the person kept the T-shirt from the photo. If you want a specific outfit, add it on a separate line; if you don't, the model carries over the clothes from your uploaded photo.
3) Black and gold birthday night
Use the person in the photo I uploaded; keep their face, hair and distinctive features ([glasses, mole, beard, earring]) exactly as in the photo, and do not beautify or change their face.
The only jewelry is what appears in the photo: [small silver hoop earrings / no jewelry].
Scene: a black and gold birthday night. The person stands in front of a dark wall and looks straight at the camera, wearing [a plain black long-sleeved dress].
Gold confetti floats in the air, with black and gold balloons in the background. There is no text, number or letter anywhere in the image.
Flash party photo lighting, waist-up framing, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 3:4.No text showed up in any of the four images, and the outfits turned black. Nano Banana 2 put long dangling earrings on the woman that we never asked for; the line "the only jewelry is what appears in the photo" is there for that. Google's own guide recommends this approach of describing what should be there instead of forbidding things. We did not test that line separately.
4) A simple birthday concept for men
Use the person in the photo I uploaded; keep their face, hair and distinctive features ([glasses, mole, beard, earring]) exactly as in the photo, and do not beautify or change their face.
Scene: a simple birthday photo. The person sits at a dark wooden table, looks straight at the camera and smiles slightly, wearing [a light blue linen shirt].
On the table is a single-layer [chocolate] cake with two number candles on top: from the viewer's side, "[4]" on the left, "[0]" on the right; together they read "[40]". No other candles.
A few [navy and gray] balloons in the background, no text or banners on the wall.
Evening light from a window, chest-up framing, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 3:4.We did not test this exact prompt. We did test Prompts 2 and 3 with the male model, and his beard, earring and eyebrow slit stayed in place in six out of six images. Change the colors and outfit inside the square brackets, and leave the number line for the cake as it is.
5) Birthday photo with your partner (from two photos)
I'm uploading two photos. Put the [woman] from photo 1 and the [man] from photo 2 in the same image. Keep both faces, hair and features ([mole and bangs on person 1, beard on person 2]) exactly as in the photos.
Scene: [person 1's] birthday. They sit side by side in a cafe, both look at the camera and smile; [person 2] holds a small slice of cake with a single candle.
Cafe: a small cafe [in Kadikoy, Istanbul], with blurred warm lights in the background. No text in the image.
Waist-up framing, 50 mm, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 4:5.We did not test this prompt. The template comes from our wedding test: there, introducing the people by number and naming the city for the location produced the right scene from two portraits. Without a city name, the model made the place look like somewhere abroad.
6) A birthday card for Mom
Make a birthday card image for [my mom] in the photo I uploaded. Do not change the person's face or hair; place the photo in the top half of the card, inside a thin [cream] frame.
The card background is [light pink] paper texture, with [wildflower] drawings in the corners.
In the bottom half, write only these two lines, letter for letter:
"[Happy birthday, Mom]"
"[We love you so much]"
No text, logo or date other than these two lines. The font should look close to handwriting but stay readable. Aspect ratio 4:5.We did not test this card. In our earlier tests, all four Gemini models wrote short Turkish lines without a single error (2,656 letters in total across invitations, posters and menus). Still, zoom in and read every letter before you send it.
7) Kids' birthday concept (no photo)
Generate a photo of a [space]-themed kids' birthday table; there are no people in the image.
Table: a [navy] tablecloth, a two-tier cake [with a rocket figure] in the middle, and [6] cupcakes in the theme colors and paper plates on the sides.
Wall behind: a garland of [navy, pink and silver] balloons and a single large [silver] foil number balloon standing on the floor: "[6]". No other numbers, letters or text.
Home living room, daylight, the table seen from the front and slightly above, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 4:3.We did not test this prompt; in the test below, the number balloon showed the age correctly 8 out of 8 times. We set up the table without a photo because ChatGPT does not edit real photos of children, and photo editing in Gemini requires you to be 18. It's enough to show the theme table and talk the concept over with your family.
8) Plain candles on the cake (fewer than 10)
Birthday cake photo: a single-layer round cake [with white frosting], topped with a few [fresh strawberries].
On top of the cake are exactly [7] thin, tall, plain [white] candles, all lit.
Setting: a light wooden table, blurred warm home lights in the background.
Camera: from 45 degrees above; all candles and their flames are in the frame and clearly separate from each other. Realistic photo, no text anywhere in the image. Aspect ratio 4:5.With seven candles, the four models counted correctly in seven of eight images; Nano Banana 2 drew 6 candles in one image and made one flame twice as tall. Keep the number under 10; for more candles, move on to the next prompt.
9) A cake with lots of candles: lining them up in rows
Birthday cake photo: a square, single-layer cake [covered in chocolate].
Thin, colorful, plain candles are arranged on top of the cake in [4] rows; each row has [4] candles, with equal spacing between rows and candles (a [4 x 4] grid, [16] candles in total). All of them are lit.
Setting: a dark wooden table, blurred balloons in the background.
Camera: from 60 degrees above; every candle and its flame is in the frame, and none is hidden behind another. Realistic photo, no text anywhere in the image. Aspect ratio 4:5.When we wrote "exactly 16 candles", only one of 8 images was right. Describing the same number in rows and columns raised that to 5; Nano Banana 2 and Pro drew 16 candles in four of four images. Split the age into rows x columns: 3 x 6 for 18, 4 x 6 for 24. The Lite model, which draws most requests on free Gemini, still couldn't get it right with this layout.
10) Number candle cake: writing the age as numbers
Birthday cake photo: a [cream-colored], single-layer round cake.
Right in the center of the cake stand two candles shaped like numbers, side by side: from the viewer's side, "[3]" on the left, "[5]" on the right; together they read "[35]". Both are lit. No other candles, numbers or text.
Setting: [a white tablecloth], blurred fairy lights in the background.
Camera: slightly above eye level, the numbers seen straight on. Realistic photo. Aspect ratio 4:5.If the age is over 10, this is the safest prompt. The four models wrote "35" in eight of eight images, and the numbers never swapped places. In one image, Nano Banana 2 added two tall candles behind the cake, despite the line "no other candles".
11) Balloon wall: see the decor before the party
Birthday balloon wall photo: an arch of [blush pink and white] balloons in the background.
In front, two large [gold] foil number balloons stand on the floor: from the viewer's side, "[2]" on the left, "[7]" on the right; together they read "[27]". No other numbers, letters or text at all.
Soft studio lighting, [light gray] backdrop, realistic photo. Aspect ratio 4:5.Use it to try out colors before you build the balloon arch. "27" read correctly in eight of eight images; the only difference between models was how full the arch looked. Change the colors, run the same prompt two or three times, and show the image you like to your balloon vendor.
12) Birthday concept plan for a party at home (written)
Make a plan for a birthday concept I'm hosting at home. Details: [my daughter Emma is turning 6], theme [space], guests [12 kids, 8 adults], space [living room, 4 x 5 meters, one wall is empty], budget [medium], prep time [2 days].
Write the following:
1) a 3-color palette with color codes,
2) balloon and decoration layout for the empty wall (left to right, with measurements),
3) cake table layout,
4) a shopping list as bullet points (give quantities, do not write prices),
5) an hour-by-hour to-do list for the day of the party.
Keep it short and practical; do not give brand names or prices. At the very end, write a one-paragraph image prompt I can use to generate a picture of this concept. We ran this prompt once in Gemini's text model. It broke the wall down meter by meter, gave a 20-item shopping list and never mentioned a price or a brand. The image prompt it gave at the end was in English and put a name banner on the wall; if you don't want text, delete it and use Prompt 7 instead.
Photo editing in Gemini is turned off for accounts under 18, so a prompt with an uploaded photo may not work. If a face or a number has shifted, don't start over: in the same chat, ask for a single fix, such as "fix only the numbers on the balloons so it's 3 on the left and 0 on the right, and do not change anything else".
Our Test: Can Gemini Count the Candles on a Cake?
At 7 candles it can. At 16, mostly it can't. We ran the test on October 20, 2026 through the Gemini API at 1K resolution with four image models (Nano Banana 2 Lite, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana 2.1, Nano Banana Pro) and two attempts per model for each prompt. We zoomed into every image and counted flames and candle bodies one by one; when two candles overlapped, we counted them as two.

| Prompt | Nano Banana 2 Lite | Nano Banana 2 | Nano Banana 2.1 | Nano Banana Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 plain candles | 7, 7 | 6, 7 | 7, 7 | 7, 7 |
| Exactly 16 plain candles | 17, 17 | 19, 19 | 21, 18 | 16, 19 |
| 16 candles, 4 rows x 4 | 17, 13 | 16, 16 | 16, 19 | 16, 16 |
| Number candles "35" | 2/2 | 2/2 | 2/2 | 2/2 |
| Number balloons "27" | 2/2 | 2/2 | 2/2 | 2/2 |
When we asked for "exactly 16 candles", every one of the seven wrong images had too many. The model seems to want the cake to look full: it adds candles to the back row and hides some directly behind the one in front. With the rows and columns prompt, Lite dropped to 13 in one image, and Nano Banana 2.1 divided the top of the cake into 16 squares in one image and put a candle in each.
Instead of saying "no cars," describe the intended scene positively.
Google's own guide points the same way: describe the scene you want instead of listing what to leave out. For numbers, that means saying where the candles go and how many rows they form. In the limitations list of the same guide, Turkish is not among the languages that give the best results; our original Turkish prompts worked anyway.
With Your Own Photo: 2 People, 3 Concepts, 2 Models

We generated two fictional people with the Gemini API: the woman has round black glasses, bangs and a mole on her cheek; the man has a short beard, a hoop earring in his left ear and a slit in his eyebrow. With these two portraits, we ran the test versions of Prompts 1, 2 and 3 once each in Nano Banana 2 Lite and in Nano Banana 2. We picked these two models because, according to Google's help page, on an account without a paid plan most requests are drawn by Lite, and by Nano Banana 2 in the Flash and Pro settings.
| What we measured | Nano Banana 2 Lite | Nano Banana 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Facial features (6 images x 3 features) | 18/18 | 18/18 |
| Numbers correct and in order (4 images) | 4/4 | 4/4 |
| Balloon numbers side by side | 2/2 | 0/2 (on either side of the person) |
| No text in the night concept | 2/2 | 2/2 |
| Additions not in the prompt | None | 1 (dangling earrings) |
We expected the big features to hold. This time Lite also did well with the small ones: in the wedding test we published yesterday, Lite lost every small feature in the night image. Here the person looked at the camera in six of six images, and the mole stayed in place. Asking for an image where the person faces the camera is the easiest way to keep small features.

The three images that strayed from the prompt all came from Nano Banana 2. Behind the 16-candle cake where we said "no text anywhere in the image", it hung a banner reading "BIRTHDAY" in English. Behind the number candle cake where we said "no other candles", two tall candles were burning. It also gave the woman long earrings that weren't in her photo. Check the edges and the background before you share; in birthday scenes, the model is very eager to add decorations.
ChatGPT or Gemini? Limits for Birthday Photos
| Criterion | ChatGPT | Gemini |
|---|---|---|
| Image model | ChatGPT Images 2.5, on all plans | Without a paid plan, most requests go to Nano Banana 2 Lite; Nano Banana 2 in the Flash and Pro settings; Nano Banana Pro on paid plans |
| Photo uploads | 3 files a day on the free plan | Up to 10 files in one prompt |
| Photos of children | OpenAI's March 2025 system card: photorealistic photos of children are not edited | Account holder must be 18 to edit photos |
| Download resolution | Not specified | 1K without a plan, 2K with a plan |
| AI marking | C2PA content credentials | SynthID watermark |
Either one is enough for a single-person birthday image. For a photo with your partner or your mom you'll upload two portraits, so keep the 3-files-a-day limit on ChatGPT's free plan in mind. We ran the counting test in this article only in Gemini; candle counts may differ in ChatGPT, so count the candles in your own attempts.
Common Mistakes
- Showing the age with candles. If you ask for more than 10 plain candles, the model will most likely draw too many; ask for number candles or a rows x columns layout.
- Not saying where the numbers go. Instead of "a balloon that says 30", write "from the viewer's side, 3 on the left, 0 on the right", and add which side of the person the balloons should stand on.
- Not describing the jewelry. In party scenes the model may add earrings and necklaces on its own; name the jewelry in your photo.
- Not checking the background. Banners, posters and extra candles usually show up near the edges.
- Asking for a profile shot. The moment of blowing out the candles looks nice, but a mole or earring can disappear at that angle; add a shot facing the camera to the album too.
- Sending the card without reading it. Short lines of text usually come out right; still, read the name and the date letter by letter.
Children's Photos, Privacy (KVKK) and Sharing
For your child's birthday, generating a theme table with no photo first (Prompt 7) solves two problems at once: ChatGPT doesn't edit realistic photos of children, and you don't have to upload your child's photo to an AI service. The generative AI guide published in November 2025 by KVKK, Turkey's data protection authority (p. 57), recommends taking care not to share third parties' data with these systems; that includes photos of the guest children at the party.
When you share an image you made, add one sentence saying it was made with AI. Gemini adds SynthID to every image and ChatGPT adds C2PA content credentials; neither is visible to the eye.
Upload your photo, list the features to keep by name, describe the scene and the outfit, and give the age as numbers, like "from the viewer's side, 3 on the left, 0 on the right". Prompt 1 is the full template; also say where the balloons go.
The "birthday text" or "concept text" shared on social media is the prompt you send to Gemini together with your photo. In Gemini, attach the photo, paste the prompt into the message box and send it.
Yes, the 12 prompts in this article work as they are in both. We ran the counting test only in Gemini, using the original Turkish prompts; in ChatGPT, check the candles and numbers yourself.
In our test, 7 candles were right in 7 of 8 images, while 16 candles were right in only one of 8, and every wrong image had too many. Describing the candles as "4 rows, 4 in each row" raised the correct images to 5; number candles are the most reliable option.
Yes. On a free Gemini account, Nano Banana 2 Lite draws most requests; in our test the numbers and facial features held up in this model too, but it was the only model that couldn't get the candle rows right. On ChatGPT's free plan you can upload 3 photos a day.
Yes: you can turn your image into a short video with Gemini's video feature, for example a scene with flickering candles or falling confetti. We covered the prompts and limits in our photo animation article.
After the test, one rule stuck with us for our own cakes: the age goes on as numbers. Stop plain candles at 7, leave the rest to number candles or balloons, and take one look at the background for a stray banner before you share.
